Right-Hand Drive Pickup Trucks: Where the Demand Is in 2025-2026 and What Importers Check Before Buying

RHD pickup demand is booming across Australia, Africa and Southeast Asia. We break down the hottest right-hand drive pickup markets and the 8-point checklist every importer runs before placing an order.

For importers and dealers, the pickup segment is one of the most predictable money-makers in commercial vehicles — if you know where the demand is, and what buyers actually care about. Here is a data-backed look at the right-hand drive (RHD) pickup markets that matter in 2025–2026, and the checklist serious importers run before they commit to a supplier.
Where RHD pickups sell best

Australia remains the anchor market. "Utes" sell in the hundreds of thousands every year, with Ford Ranger, Toyota Hilux and Isuzu D-MAX leading, and Chinese newcomers such as BYD Shark 6 (around 18,000 units in 2025) and GWM Cannon already cracking the top tier.

Thailand is the second-largest pickup market on earth, but it is harder to enter: Toyota Hilux moved about 61,000 units and Isuzu D-MAX about 51,000 in 2025. Thai buyers are famously loyal to "built to last" Japanese brands, which makes the entry bar high — but the reward is equally high once trust is built.

South Africa is the gateway to the African continent. Roughly 12,000 pickups sell every month, and Chinese brands already hold about 12% of the segment, with eight nameplates in the top 20. Beyond South Africa, East and West Africa — Kenya, Tanzania, Zambia, Nigeria, Ghana — run overwhelmingly on RHD Hilux and JDM imports for mining, farming, construction and government fleets. That is exactly the gap a factory-direct RHD new pickup can fill.

South Asia (Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka), New Zealand and the UK round out the map: price-sensitive growth in the first, compliance-heavy maturity in the latter two. And don't forget the Gulf: Dubai works as a re-export hub for RHD trucks heading into Africa — a logistics advantage many importers already use.

The 8-point checklist every importer runs

1. Factory RHD, not conversion. A factory-built right-hand drive vehicle is safer, more integrated and far easier to certify than an LHD conversion. Always confirm the build type in writing.

2. Destination compliance. Emissions and safety standards differ by country. Your supplier should know them and document them — not discover them on the shipping date.

3. Reliability story. End users in Africa and Southeast Asia judge a truck by "how long it keeps working." Specs that matter: proven diesel, real 4x4, body-on-frame chassis.

4. Parts and serviceability. A truck is only as good as the parts network behind it. Ask about spare parts supply and technical support before the first container ships.

5. Payload and duty-cycle. Mining, construction and farm buyers need real payload and rough-road capability, not lifestyle styling.

6. Price plus financing. Competitive landing cost wins the tender; financing partners at the destination help you close retail deals faster.

7. Complete paperwork. Import licence, certificate of origin, commercial invoice, bill of lading, emission compliance — one missing document stops a container at customs.

8. Factory backing. An OEM with export experience, ISO-certified production and customization capability de-risks your whole order.

At WOYO MOTORS, we are a commercial-vehicle-only export supply chain. Our MAXUS T60 2.0T 4x4 single cab pickup ships factory-built in both LHD and RHD, with OEM customization, full export documentation and ISO9001 / ISO14001 / ISO45001 certified production behind every unit. If you are buying right-hand drive pickups for the long term, talk to the factory, not the middleman.
